Austin Helms is the co-owner of 21st Century Life, a New York-based party planning and promotions organization focused on gay culture, nightlife, and advocacy. A self-proclaimed "Creativity Enthusiast," Helms throws amazing parties in New York City and writes about gay New York on his blog, The Fabulous Apple. Neither of us quite remember where, when, or how we first met which oftentimes happens when meeting people in nightlife - we'll all have different stories. I was pretty sure we first met at Splash Bar on a Campus Thursday but, when asked, Austin claims, "was it on Grindr or Manhunt? I seem to remember seeing pictures of you long before I met you."

I participate in the walk every year from San Diego, California but this will be my first year with AIDS Walk New York. I managed to raise $500 for the walk last year and have decided to go above and beyond this year with an ambitious goal of raising $1000 by the 20th of May. As of Monday, the 27th of February, it has been reported that the walk has raised a total of $737,211 donations.
That being said go ahead and contribute $1, $10, $100 - the important thing is not the level of your monetary contribution but your wholehearted support! Together we can make a big difference! Find my donation page here (http://aidswalknewyork2012.kintera.org/ellestanol).

Wayne Besen, the founder of Truth Wins Out, a non-profit organization that fights anti-gay religious extremism, wrote about my good friend Chaim Levin, writer of Gotta Give 'Em Hope, in the Huffington Post's Gay Voices. Check out the full article below!
When people think of anti-gay places, the gay mecca of New York City does not often come to mind. However, Brooklyn's Orthodox Jewish community is a hotbed of homophobia, where LGBT people are shunned, abused, rejected, and told they must change their sexual orientation to be accepted.Follow Wayne Bessen (@truthwinsout) and Chaim Levin (@chaim89) on Twitter!
Chaim Levin, 22, grew up feeling the sting of discrimination and disgust from his Orthodox family and neighbors in Crown Heights. In his teenage years he was sent away to a strict religious boarding school in France. After Levin was outed, he was bullied and humiliated on a daily basis.

Gender-bending model Andrej Pejic, 20, has been confirmed as the face of Jean Paul Gaulier's new fragrance line, Kokorico. The 6'1", blonde-haired, blue-eyed continues to grow in popularity in the fashion world, donning stunning designs for both men and women's fashion but the question is will his look be as well-received by a predominantly male demographic?
I kicked off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2012 at The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection, a benefit show and national campaign which raises awareness for women's heart health diseases. The campaign's tenth anniversary kicked off New York Fashion Week with celebrities such as veteran model and longtime RDC supporter Christie Brinkley, former model and actress Rebecca Romijn, and singer-songwriter Gloria Estefan.
The centerpiece of The Heart Truth is the Red Dress, which was introduced as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness in 2002 by NHLBI. The Red Dress® reminds women of the need to protect their heart health and inspires them to take action.

I met Rikki in Vermont last year where he stole my heart with his energy and creativity. This 23, soon to be 24 in May, year-old Indiana boy is now strutting his heels in Los Angeles, California and is clearly making quite a splash. One of the many things I love about Rikki is his authenticity and presence.

Join me for two open bars at The Cove every Thursday night!
I moved out to New York City just last May 2011 and, in the nine short months I've lived here, I have learned a lot about love, sex, relationships, nightlife, art, food, and of course myself in relation to all these things. New York City is a hell of a city that swallows you whole then spits you right back out but with a bit of luck, self-reliance, and good friends you may just make it out alive. If you can make it here, let alone survive, you can do it anywhere. I'm not doing so bad for myself - let's see where this takes me!
